STANDARD HOSE COMPANY 4 HISTORY

On December 18th, 1911, the Standard Chemical Company was organized and quartered in a building owned by William Harris, on Flint Street. The first apparatus owned by the company was a two-wheeled, double tank chemical apparatus. As this proved unsatisfactory, after a short time, the apparatus was changed to a four-wheel, two tank apparatus.

A short time afterwards, the Standard Chemical Engine Company voted to change its name to the Standard Hose Company No. 4. This was approved by the Trustees. On December 14th, 1922, the company placed in commission after several years of hard work, holding dances, carnivals, and other forms of entertainment, a type B-4 Brockway combination motor chemical and hose wagon, thus completely motorizing the entire department. A few months later a paper was started among the businessmen of the Village, by Alex Poulos, for the purchase of a Ford runabout for use as a Chief’s car.
