Public Statement from the Chiefs of the Greenport Fire Department
To address the administrative issue concerning ALS service from the Greenport Fire Department Rescue:
There is no change in our service. Working with our Stony Brook University Paramedic partners, GFD continues to provide high quality ALS and BLS emergency medical services to our community. We are extremely proud of our volunteers ongoing ability to meet unprecedented demand at a level of call volume unmatched on the North Fork.
Since 1845, the men and women of the Greenport Fire Department have served the residents and visitors of Greenport with pride, dedication, and a relentless sense of community. Passed down from generation to generation, the legacy of the Greenport Fire Department is instilled in every member past and present.
The Greenport Fire Department is funded by the Village of Greenport and Southold Town to serve the Incorporated Village as well as the East/West District of Greenport in Southold Town. The Department operates out of two fire stations, the main house, (Station 1) at 236 Third Street, and Standard Hose Company 4 (Station 2) located on Flint Street. It currently has over 150 members serving in various capacities including five fire companies (Phenix Hook & Ladder Company #1, Eagle Hose Company #1, Relief Hose Company #2, Star Hose Company #3, and Standard Hose Company #4), as well as Rescue, Marine Fire and Rescue, and Fire Police Squads. The Rescue Squad works closely with the paramedics of the Division of Medical Services at Stony Brook Medicine.* Greenport’s fire companies are outfitted with four pumper engines, a heavy rescue, and a hook and ladder apparatus, its rescue squad has two full-service ambulances, and its recently formed Marine Fire Rescue Squad is equipped with a 1998 26’ World Cat with dual 200hp Honda 4-stroke outboard engines and a 250 GPM fire pump and monitor as well as a small inflatable rescue boat.
Thank you for visiting our website. For over 180 years, we have served our community, and we look forward to continuing to serve Greenport for many more!
*Stony Brook Medicine EMS is responsible for providing a range of pre-hospital and inter-facility EMS services including 911 response, ALS interfacility transports, critical care transports and air medical services. The 911 response includes two ALS first responders on the North Fork of Long Island, three 911 ambulances that provide assistance to local EMS services and two Mobile Stroke Units.
